Studio Underjord is run by producer/engineer Joona Hassinen who began his recording "career" in 1998 by recording and producing punk and garage rock bands in the city of Enköping, Sweden. 2018 marked his 20th year as a recording engineer. Studio Underjord has been his main occupation since 2010. The studio has been in different locations and is right now residing in an old industrial building outside of Norrköping, Sweden. With a spaceous live room (100m2/1080ft2) built for huge drum sounds and the possibility of full band live recording, this is a studio that truly stands out in an age where studios grow smaller and smaller.
We record everything through an Amek 501 Console designed by Rupert Neve and preamps by Langley. We have an extensive microphone locker to make sure we always have the right tool for whatever source we are recording. The advances in technology (Yeah, I'm looking at you Mr Steven Slate) has made it possible to have less outboard equipment, so we have focused on getting a really nice backline, with a wide range of guitar amps, speakers, drums and fx-pedals etc, to suit many different types of sound. Wether you play bluesrock or extreme death metal, we have the gear to make you sound good! Or bad. Hopefully good.
The internet has made it possible to mix everywhere in the world by making it possible to send your files digitally. We have worked with bands from all over the globe (or disk, or whatever you wanna call it..) and we are always looking to collaborate with the right artists. We have access to almost any Digital Audio Workstation so it's not a problem if you want to send us your entire project from Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One or Logic.
Mastering your album can be a tricky feat, but by sending your material to us you can feel safe about it. We have put lots of effort in making our control room sound as good as possible (i.e neutral), so what we hear in our monitors will work on a multitude of medias. We do mastering for all the different platforms like CD (with your ISRC codes etc), YouTube, streaming services like Spotify and iTunes, and we also do mastering for vinyl releases. Get in touch and let's talk about what we can do for your music to sound as good as possible.
We have made a lot of live sessions in the studio, some of which you can find here. It's a pretty simple setup: you arrive and set up your gear and I prepare the microphones and the soundcheck. After a cup of coffee and a chat about Yngwie Malmsteen's More Is More philosophy we simply turn on the lights, hit record and start shooting. In a few weeks you will have your session up on youtube (or wherever you want to publish). All the hard work is typically done in one day.
